  1. Include Rich Text Control in PDF output

We want to generate PDF forms, so we are using different Word form controls. We found that plain text control is exported into the PDF output as a PDF field, however it has some limitations with text length and wrapping. We are very interested on using rich text controls, since they allow better formatting, longer and wrapped text and inserting tags inside the control to pre-fill the PDF form field.

  2. Scatter chart - same size for markers in plot area and in the legend

    Hello,

Right now when working with a scatter chart in Word if you have different sizes for the markers they will be shown as different sizes on the plotted area, but in the legend the marker sizes are the same size.

In the attached picture 1 and 2 have different sizes on the plotted area and in the legend they are the same size but smaller. Right now only marker sizes 3 and 4 behave normally (the marker size is the same on the plot and in the legend).

I was told that this is a known limitaion.

    Can you…

  5. Allow windward to distinguish between duplicate tables with different schema names on same postgres database

Postgres databases does not limit a users ability view table and column names based on user access rights (read for detail: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/20201436/how-to-restrict-access-to-schemas/20202163#20202163)

When valid duplicate table names (different schemas) exist then windward data bin places all of the fields from the duplicate tables into one table, sometimes resulting in duplicate field names or adding in fields that don't exist.

We can work around it by editing the xml but this is counterproductive as our database is continually changing after every release.

Please adjust windward so that schemas are used to differentiate between duplicate table names.

  6. Excel report result file is not adjusting the size of the cell based on data length

We are generating report in excel and facing one issue related to size of the cell based on data length.
Report is not displaying complete data in cell as length/width of cell is not adjusting by windward report automatically based on data length.

  8. HTML rendering in PowerPoint

We understand the Out tag can render HTML when the Type property is set to TEMPLATE. This is not possible in PowerPoint. We need to have this feature in PowerPoint as it is one our core docs requiring HTML.

  9. Ability to output equations in WindWard

In the latest version of WindWard it's not possible to output Microsoft Equations, in the output .DOCX file the places where the equations should've been are left empty.

Ideally, the equations are shown in the generated output.

  10. Images in HTML specified as absolute URLs

We use Winward to generate HTML content for marketing emails. These mailers often have images included along with the text. However, some email clients block images in HTML that are embedded inline using base64 encoding. An alternative solution is to specify the source of the image as an absolute URL.

For example, the following inline embedded image:
    <img src="data:image/jpg;base64, iVBORedghAAAfrdsdge=">

    should be replaced with:
    <img src="https://www.myserver.com/car.jpg">.

It would be great if Winward could support adding images specified by absolute URLs into templates.

  12. Allow entering Array-type Input Parameters

It would be great if we could add an array-type variable of either String or Number type as an input variable. This could be used to filter datasources with a IN statement, for example.

  13. Support Unix Time

Support Unix Time and be able to format that as a date or datetime

  14. PDF/A-3 support

    Dear Windward team,

the Java engine already has the ability to render PDF/A-1b compliant files. Would it be possible to extend it to other PDF/A conformance levels, mainly PDF/A-3?

    Thank you very much!

  15. Password protect excel output

The same way you can protect a PDF with a password, it would be great if we could do it for excel files too.

  16. Configurable Watermark

Add the ability to conditionally add a watermark to a word template based on an input parameter.

    Use case:
We have an invoice we send to our customers that is a draft. We apply the wording "draft" as a watermark to the template. Once the customer has approved the invoice, we send them a final copy which is identical to the original without the word "draft" as a watermark. Currently, we have to maintain two identical templates to handle this. It would be ideal to only have one template where an input variable controls the display of the watermarked text.

  17. Table of Contents /t field code not performing as expected - Feature

/t seems to be broken when it is used in Table of Contents. When generating a doc output, the TOC ignores the /t and includes all of the headings/styles in the document. Updating the TOC in the output fixes it, which means something is occurring in the generation of the output.

In addition, when multiple unique TOC's are in a document, all of the TOC's will break if only ONE TOC has the /t field.

Deleting /t and only using /o is the current mediocre workaround. But it would be great if /t could work so we could use our…

  18. Generate Partial Reports

We have some huge templates. Hundreds of pages long that results in reports that are thousands of pages long.

While entering data in our system, we'd like to ability to preview what the report will look like. Therefore, we are requesting partial template generation.

Example: I have just entered the data for pages 42-45 of a 200 page template. I would like to generate those page, which may end up being 5 or 10 pages long when generated.

  19. Different PDF converter/convert through Word

We are having a lot differences between the Word output and that generated by Windward PDF. Spacing can be different and sometimes the PDF does things wrong that Word does correctly, such as text going through a footer or the PDF not breaking the page correctly when using Keep with Next. It seems to me a lot of defelopment time goes into trying to make the PDF output better.
In literally every instant, the PDF from Word's Export feature worked correctly. Also, the output is half the file size, which is also very important for us.
    A lot of our…

    Hello Reporter,

Perhaps you can benefit from Windward’s “Use Office for PDF Output” functionality, this sounds like the functionality you described. Please see this Ohana article on how you can setup the Windward Engine to use Microsoft Office’s native PDF export functionality for PDF output: https://ohana.windwardstudios.com/m/76878/l/1178439-how-do-i-use-microsoft-office-to-generate-pdf-output-in-report-designer

Please let me know if this solution works for you, or expand on your request if I misunderstood it. Thank you.

  20. Disconnect DataSets from Datasources

Disconnect DataSets from Datasources. If we could create a dataset seperately (Like we do with Query Tags) we could have datasets defined in the template itself and not in the datasources. This allows us to change the datasource when generating the template on the Staging or Prod machines and still have the same subset of data selected.

It would make templates much more reusable as we could define a handful of more general datasources and limit the data requested by using DataSets in the templates.

    Hello Reporter,

We have reviewed this idea and accepted it for future development. We will come up with a solution where you specify in the Engine to use the Dataset defined in the template instead of specifying the same query in the Engine. This way, changes made to the Dataset in the template can be used in the Engine at runtime without you needing to update the query somewhere in the Engine, but rather just by updating the template.

If this solution does not solve your problem, please let me know. Thank you for your idea and please submit any other ideas you have to improve our software.
