  1. Make Conditional Formatting Rule Manager more user friendly.

    Dear Windward,

    Is it possible to make the option to define a condition on a tag more user friendly.

    A way to create a condition with a Condition Wizard (that let you select and compare nodes/variables/..) would be very helpfull.

    To select a color in the Format wizard, a color picker would also be very helpfull instead of entering hex values manually.

    Kind Regards Jochen

  2. Variables in the Datasource URL of a Webservice

    At the moment I could not add dynamic parameters to the URL of a Webservice. For example I have the following datasource url:

    http://jsondatasource/api/Json/GetEmployeeByName?firstname=Martin

    but instead of the static value 'Martin' I need a dynamic variable value like

    http://jsondatasource/api/Json/GetEmployeeByName?firstname=${firstnameParam}

    Thx,

    Regards

    Thank you for reporting this idea.

    I have started reviewing this request and will update the ticket again when we have a decision on weather to incorporate this request into our software.

    Thank you, and please submit any other ideas you have!

  3. New variable type to support longer blocks of text

    I am creating a cover letter report. I want to set the default text for the body of the letter but allow the user to modify it prior to report generation, and it should have multiple paragraphs. The existing Text variable doesn't support line breaks, so this is not possible. Please add a new variable type (e.g., TextArea) that would be more appropriate for longer blocks of text than what was probably intended/envisioned with the existing Text type variable.

  4. Output of Excel column auto-filters set in template

    Given that your report generator effectively generates rows of data (in Excel format), it would make sense that the ability to setup auto-filters and have them show up in the output be there as well.

    As it is now, all our customers who use the output generated from our templates have to manually go into each tab and turn on the column filters, as the filters we have setup in the templates to not make it to the output.

  6. Dynamically colour table cell backgrounds in Report Designer

    Hi

    We would like the functionality to dynamically input coloured table cell backgrounds in our template. The colours we use are pulled dynamically from our data source and are defined by our clients, therefore the conditional formatting of table cells is inadequate as the conditional formatting always requires a hard-coded value to be present in the template to compare against.

    Hello reporter!

    I have started the review process for this idea and will update this ticket when we decide weather to incorporate your idea into the software. This request seems similar to me to other requests for the ability to specify property values using template variables. I will update this ticket again when I have more information on when this functionality could be expected. Thank you for your idea!

  7. Name cells populated by forEach tag

    Make possible to name cells populated by forEach tag according to a given pattern.
    The pattern might include a prefix or a suffix with an item index to get a unique cell name.
    Additionally allow to name entire range populated by forEach tag.

  8. Expand date parsing to other standard formats

    Currently, AutoTag is able to parse dates stored in ISO format (e.g. "2017-09-12T00:00:00.000Z" stored with the toISOString JavaScript method) without any additional input from the user beyond specifying a date output format and type. However, it throws an error when other standard formats are used, such as that generated by the toDateString JavaScript method (e.g. "Tue Jan 12 2017 00:00:00 GMT-0000 (UTC)"). A workaround may be to spell out the format in the Input attribute on the tag, but this is cumbersome and not user-friendly. It would be better if AutoTag natively parsed standard formats other than ISO.

  9. Refresh Tags

    What if when a document was generated from a template instead of replacing the Tag with the data have the data replace the Tag friendly name. Then the generated document could be passed around modified and when all the changes are agreed upon then run the template again to get the latest values from the data source.

    Recently I've had several prospects ask for this kind of functionality and this is the only idea that I could think of that might allow users to refresh their data in generated documents.

  10. Blank page detection

    A way to identify if blank pages could appear if a loop that spans multiple pages. Or a way to remove blank pages.

    We have been having issues surrounding this and have had many defects raised around blank pages appearing in bulk bills.

    Thank you
    Adam

    Every time I change a variable name inside a Set tag, AutoTag prompts me if I want to update all tags. Can you please add an option to disable this prompt? It slows me down when I am trying to make changes to a lot of tags.

  12. Throw exception if document output = Null

    If I design a template, and the output results in no content displayed, can Windward send a system-level notification (e.g. throw an exception in the Java engine)?

    Ideally, if the output is null, no document would be generated or sent, or Windward would communicate that the document is blank.

  13. ForEach order='row' - Too Many Queries

    When using a ForEach order=row inside another ForEach loop the number of queries performed multiplies e.g. If you have an outer ForEach loop which retrieves 5 entries, and an inner ForEach loop with order=row you get:
    - Call to initial outer ForEach
    - Call to initial outer ForEach
    - Loop over each inner ForEach (5 calls)
    - Call to initial out For Each
    - Look over each inner ForEach (5 calls)
    .. and so on until each entry in the Outer ForEach is resolved.

    If you use legacy mode on the inner ForEach you get a single outer foreach call,…

  14. wizard can't be used to specify repeated nodes

    If we have repeated sections e.g.
    <payments>
    <payment>
    <StartDate>30/07/2015</StartDate>
    <NumberOfPayments>1</NumberOfPayments>
    <Frequency>Monthly</Frequency>
    <Payment>4824.8207</Payment>
    <EndDate>30/07/2015</EndDate>
    </payment>
    <payment>
    <StartDate>30/08/2015</StartDate>
    <NumberOfPayments>35</NumberOfPayments>
    <Frequency>Monthly</Frequency>
    <Payment>696.29</Payment>
    <EndDate>30/06/2018</EndDate>
    </payment>
    </payments>

    And we want to specifically pick a value for the second repeated section we can tag this using payment/payment[2]/EndDate
    This cannot be done through the wizard.

  15. Preserve page number formatting across different sections in Word (AutoTag)

    Currently in Autotag 12.5.37, when there are different sections in a Word Document that utilize different page number formats (e.g. i/ii/iii/iv/... and 1/2/3/4/...) and a document is generated from a data source, the formatting in the template does not come through and all page numbers default to the 1/2/3/4/... format, resulting in confusion for the reader.

    Allowing for this capability will make it easier for Autotag users to maintain a more refined template where readers can more easily identify the section that they are reading and reduces rework for Autotag users.

    Thanks!

  16. Bring back the Gauge Tag

    While there are a lot of chart options available in version 14 of Auto Tag, as well as native Word charts, we would love to be able to use gauges for certain data depictions. Are there any plans to bring this tag back?

    Gauges were originally removed as we switched the charting package that we use internally to ChartDirector. While this package does include gauges, the interface for selecting values for a gauge chart was not a straighforward implementation.

    So we tabled the feature until it received a strong user request (the backend code is still available).

    Now that you have posed an interest it is up for internal discussion again. We will keep you updated with the decision but knowing that there are actives requests definitely helps its chances for being reinstated.

  17. Make Find/Replace work in header/footer

    AutoTag's Find/Replace works great in the main body of a Word document (for example, when a data source is renamed and you need to update the tags that use it), but it doesn't change anything in the header or footer. This isn't very user-friendly. A sample is attached that replicates the issue.

    I understand this is due to limitations of the Word/Office API, but if this can stay on the radar as something to fix if the Office API gets better, that would be great.

  18. Make Word image cropping work with import tags

    We need to crop images to a designated area, regardless of aspect ratio, because we serve images of all kinds of sizes and we want to prevent: a) an image from getting stretched/squashed and b) an image pushing the rest of the layout off the page. The images we serve are photos made during inspections by building inspectors with all sorts of mobile devices, in both landscape and portrait mode.

    When you use an import tag and then preview/render, it will save the image it downloads in the document. I will call this the "preview image". Currently when you use…

  19. Designer support for MSWord Comments

    When generating reports we would like AutoTag to provide the ability to create MSWord comments. Our reports can be quite large and require QA reviews. As part of our JSON we include a comments/notes structure. We'd like to take that JSON element and create a comment.

  20. Highlight corresponding open and close tags when selected

    Similar to how code editors will highlight a closing bracket when an open bracket is selected (and vise-versa) to easily determine what is contained in the brackets and identify the scope of everything, I think it would be useful if the same idea was introduced with tags. For instance if a user selects and open foreach tag, then the corresponding closing foreach tag would also be highlighted.

    This would make it a lot easier with massive templates and a bunch of loop and if-conditional nesting to find what belongs to what loop or conditional. This way if a conditional block…
