Make Word image cropping work with import tags
We need to crop images to a designated area, regardless of aspect ratio, because we serve images of all kinds of sizes and we want to prevent: a) an image from getting stretched/squashed and b) an image pushing the rest of the layout off the page. The images we serve are photos made during inspections by building inspectors with all sorts of mobile devices, in both landscape and portrait mode.
When you use an import tag and then preview/render, it will save the image it downloads in the document. I will call this the "preview image". Currently when you use the Word cropping functionality, it will apply to the preview image. Then when you render the document using Autotag/Engine, it will download a different image in the import tag which might have a totally different aspect ratio. The problem is that this uses the cropping of the preview image rather than re-applying the cropping after the new image is downloaded. As a result the newly downloaded image gets stretched/squashed to the aspect ratio that the preview image was cropped to.
As I see it, the main change would be to re-apply the selected crop option to any images that have cropping enabled after downloading a new one. This is a bit of a band-aid solution though, plus it would only work for the docx output format. You'd have to implement a custom cropping method as part of the import tag to make it work with other output formats.
I wanted to update you that this functionality has been developed and tested, and will be released in our 16.3.0 version release. Please stay tuned for this release where you will receive this functionality.
